Get Informed!Lead Poisoning Prevention, Education, & Testing
Lead exposure in children can affect a child’s learning, behavior, and growth. Children are more vulnerable to lead poisoning because their nervous systems are still developing. Their more sensitive to the effects of lead. Babies and small children can swallow or breathe in lead from contaminated dirt, dust, or sand while playing on the ground/floor.
- It is recommended by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services that all parents of a child under 4 years of age should be provided lead education and offered a blood lead test annually.
- All children receiving Missouri Medicaid benefits must have a lead test completed at 12 and 24 months of age.
TCHD provides lead testing for children 1-6 years of age by appointment. Lead testing is available at both locations. Fees for lead testing will be submitted to insurance or Medicaid. If uninsured lead testing is offered at low cost.
